Our Programs
Discovery LabOverview of the Program
First Baptist Church School offers a special program in multisensory structured language remediation to help students in grades 1 – 8 with learning differences achieve success at school. The Discovery Learning Lab provides academic support for students with documented learning differences. Students in the program receive one-on-one and small group instruction with careful monitoring and the use of appropriate teaching methods. Students must be enrolled in First Baptist Church School to participate in this program.
Teachers
Teachers in the Discovery Learning Lab are Certified Academic Language Therapists. Our teachers utilize Alphabetic Phonics, the primary Orton-Gillingham based multisensory structured language program, while also incorporating the Take Flight curriculum from the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital as well as Project Read written expression and reading comprehension strands. The Discovery Learning Lab staff works closely with the classroom teachers to help meet individual needs of students, and each student’s progress is closely monitored with feedback provided to the parent.
